We just got upgraded to Windows 10 at work. I also tried creating a shortcut, renaming the shortcut, and pinning it to my quick access, but it wouldn’t allow me. This is a problem because my work’s file structure. We have lots of different topics and every topic’s folder structure is sorted by year.

I did not create that system – it was people much higher up than me and I likely cannot change it. I used to get around this issue by naming my shortcuts something meaningful.

As such, many of my quick access files all have the same name ” files” since I can’t give them a more meaningful nickname, making the shortcuts useless. Quick Access never existed before, it’s entirely new functionality, rebuilt from the ground up.

It’s not just a renamed version of the old favorites really “links” folder. So in short the bad news is you cannot do it. The best thing I can think of off the top of my head as a suggestion, would be to make your own folder and dump your shortcuts in it, and pin that particular folder to the Quick Access navigation area.

First I would ask you to make sure the directory path is correct. Click into that folder, then click inside the address bar and make sure it is correct there make sure you see “pictures” in the path name. If that’s right, then it’s likely that there is a hidden desktop. Just delete it to make the folder stop using a ‘customized name’ like that.
